Chennai, Sept 18:
In the case involving the alleged sexual assault of a 13-year-old girl, Gem Granites founder Veeramani (84), along with Mahendra Simha and his wife Shanthi, was arrested by the Anti-Vice Squad police and remanded in Puzhal prison.
The Anti-Vice Squad had approached the Egmore court seeking police custody of Veeramani to investigate allegations regarding the number of minor girls he may have sexually assaulted and the number of women who may have been affected. During the hearing, the court declined to grant police custody, taking into consideration Veeramani’s age and health condition.
However, the court permitted the police to question Veeramani inside the prison for two days. Following the order, officials of the Anti-Vice Squad are expected to visit Puzhal prison today and tomorrow to question him as part of the investigation.
