NEW DELHI:
The Central Bureau of Investigation has arrested a Directorate General of Civil Aviation official and a company director in connection with an alleged bribery case.
The arrests come at a time when the aviation regulator is under scrutiny over regulatory compliance and safety oversight. The agency is investigating the circumstances surrounding the alleged transaction and the role of those arrested.
The development is also significant as the DGCA is preparing for further scrutiny of India’s aviation safety oversight system. The regulator is scheduled to conduct final audits of airlines this week ahead of an assessment by the US Federal Aviation Administration.
The DGCA is also preparing responses to a large set of questions from the FAA as part of the reassessment process.
