Chennai, Nov 5:

‘The Madras Warp’, a contemporary group art exhibition bringing together sixteen artists under one shared roof, opened at the Lalit Kala Akademi in Chennai, running from November 1 to November 7, 2026. Curated by Nivetha Mailasini, an art practitioner specialising in Museology and Cultural Heritage, the exhibition takes its name from the structural warp threads that form the foundation of woven fabric, celebrating diverse individual expressions within a unified space.

The showcase spans diverse mediums, including painting, sculpture, photography, printmaking, ceramics, mixed media, and installations, reflecting the artists’ personal journeys, curiosities, and worldviews without being confined to a single rigid theme. The featured artists include Apoorva Kappagantula, Catherine Alexander, Helen Jenifer, Hemant Kumar, Indhujapriya, Kiran Babu, Mahima Varma, Maran Rajapandian, Neppoliyan, Nivetha Mailasini, Rishi Sasi, Selin Sabashini, Vibhav Kasal, Vidarthe Nagarajan, Vidya Lalgudi Jaishankar, and Vineesh Vijayan.

Speaking about the curatorial concept, artist and curator Nivetha Mailasini said, ā€œArt has many ways of touching our lives. Sometimes it connects us, sometimes it comforts us, and sometimes it simply stays with us.ā€ She emphasized that the exhibition aims to connect people through art organically, offering an open platform for dialogue where audiences can engage directly with modern works and the stories behind them.
