It was all over in a flash, the polls. And more than a fortnight has passed, since. The results are another three weeks away. I am not really bothered about the candidates who are on RAC nor their party leaders with their fingers crossed.

Desolation. Decadence. Decay. Destruction. Devastation. Death. Dissolution. The inevitable destination of the human race, jointly and  severally. So, why race towards it on our own when the natural order of all things is anyway headed in the direction of doom?

I am writing this to inform you all, loyal readers, that I won’t be writing this week. There are many reasons for me to skip my regular column, some personal but mostly political.

For me, NOTA is not an option howsoever ugly the credentials of the candidates. Yet, I welcome NOTA because it was introduced with the honourable motive of bringing a disillusioned voter to the booth.

In a shameful first, in 2016 TN Assembly elections, polling in two constituencies was put off due to the ‘pernicious effect of money power’, to quote the EC.

I am inspired. I am encouraged. And I am emboldened, enough to present my own manifesto, my promises, knowing fool, er, full well that there is no chance of me getting elected. There is a conspiratorial proviso in the EC fool, hell, rule book that unfairly disallows those who have not fooled… filed their nominations, from contesting.

The closing years of the 20th century, particularly the pre-globalisation ‘80s, were the high point of entrepreneurship and enterprise thanks to just one person: Dhirubhai Hirachand Ambani and his Reliance Industries Ltd.

Politics, the last resort of scoundrels, is not just a notorious arena of foulplay but is also a fertile ground for foul-ups all along, all over. The prevailing pollscape promises to be a pleasant season for bloomers to bloom, with party leaders stumbling and fumbling their way through the dust and din of the hustings.
