Coimbatore: District Superintendent of Police R Pandiarajan yesterday said that only four people have been identified as being involved in the recent sexual harassment case of a girl in Pollachi so far.
There were also speculation of involvement of politicians in the case, but the official ruled out involvement of any politician. The District Collector has been urged for detaining the four accused who were arrested last month under the stringent Goondas Act.
According to the complaint filed by the 19-year-old girl, the men had taken her in a car and attempted to disrobe her and videographed it. As she refused to yield to their advances, the four started blackmailing her by showing the video and threw her out of the vehicle after snatching a gold chain. Based on a complaint made by her, the police arrested them last month. Following this, the police arrested three others who had allegedly assaulted the victim’s brother for lodging the police complaint.
The SP said there were only four videos in the mobile phone seized from one of the accused and warned of stringent action against those spreading rumours about the case.
