Sterlite: SC dismisses Vedanta plea

Chennai: The Supreme Court today dismissed a petition filed by Vedanta group to open Sterlite industries for maintenance purpose.

In the petition filed by the company, the firm stated that it had pressed for the hearing of its interim applications and had also sought expeditious hearing of its main petitions but the Madras High Court expressed its inability to hear the matter due to paucity of time.

Hearing the petition, the apex court said enough time was already given to remove the waste from the plant.

“Moreover the Supreme Court cannot take up this matter as there are already pending cases in Madras High Court in connection with this issue. Fine will be imposed if any further petition is filed in the matter,” the court said.
