Death toll in Turkey earthquake rises above 45,000

 The latest statement of AFAD (Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency) said that 45,089 people lost their lives while 1,15,000 people were injured in the Turkey earthquake, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) reported. A devastating earthquake of 7.8 on the Richter scale hit Southern Turkiye in the early hours of 6 February (4.17 a.m.), with its epicentre in the Pazarcik district of Kahramanmaras province.

Wheat output in India rises 1,000%

India’s wheat production increased almost 1,000 per cent in the past 6 decades – thanks to the Green Revolution of the 1960s. To put it into context, the country’s total wheat output rose from 98.5 lakh tonne in the early 1960s to 1,068.4 lakh tonne in 2021-22, the centre said on Wednesday through a data chart.

France is facing a new wave of COVID-19 infections fuelled by new variants of the disease, French vaccination chief Alain Fischer said on Wednesday, as daily new cases reached an almost two-month peak the day before at more than 95,000.
