Chennai: DMK president and former Tamilandu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi today passd away at 6.10 pm. The bulletin from Kauvery Hospital announced at 6.40 pm that Kearunanidhi passed away at 6.10 pm today.
The 94-year-old towering personality of the State and one of the influential political figures of India, died at Kauvery Hospital after putting up a stiff fight for 11 days in the Alwarpet hospital.
He was admitted to the hospital on 28 July after his blood pressure dropped while he was being treated at his Gopalapuram residence for urinary tract infection and fever.
Although his condition improved after being admitted to the ICU, it suffered a transient setback on 29 July.
As worried cadres gathered in front of the hospital, his condition improved and photos were released of his son M K Stalin leading VIP visitors to look him up in the ICU. When Rahul Gandhi visited him, Stalin was seen whispering into the ear of Karunanidhi who was seen lying in hospital without the support of gadgets.
But his condition deteriorated suddenly yesterday and he passed away this evening.
