Karunanidhi passes away: Condolences from Vairamuthu, stars

Chennai:  Writer and lyricist Vairamuthu, who had a very close relationship with DMK president Karunanidhi for several years, to the extent of exchanging jokes, conveyed his thoughts on his friend passing away.

“Kalaignar is  history. He was poet, he was  saviour. He created prime ministers and presidents. He had no high education but was a university by himself. His contribution to Tamil is immense,” he said.

“He has left a void in the State. It cannot be filled. He has achieved many great feats and contributed a lot for the development of the State and politics,” he said.

He recalled that Karunanidhi had visited his house 30 years ago to see his  paintings and spent two hours. “He wished Suriya for his first film and also Karthi for his maiden venture. He will stay in our hearts forever,” said Sivakumar.
