RIP Karunanidhi: Journey to Marina

Coffin of DMK chief M Karunanidhi

Chennai: DMK president M Karunanidhi’s mortal remains in being taken in a procession to Marina beach where he will be buried near his mentor C N Annadurai, just like he wished.

The TN government and the Madras HC gave their consent to burying him after working president M K Stalin moved the court.

M Karunanidhi, who was an iconic leader in bringing up the Dravidian era breathed his last on Tuesday evening at 6.10 pm.

Meanwhile, Karunanidhi’s procession has now reached Sivananda Salai, which is a stone’s throw away from Rajaji Hall.  Due to the numerous cadres present along the route, the movement is slow, says a ‘News Today’ reporter.

Karunanidhi’s coffin has the words ‘Oyivu edukamal irunthavan itho oyivu eduthu kolkiran’ inscribed on it. These are the words he suggested 30 years back should be put on his coffin.

Measurements for the coffin too is being taken at the site.

Vaiko and Thirumavalavan have arrived at the spot. The preparation for the burial is taking place at rapid speed. DMK partymen can be seen wailing and crying their hearts out over the demise of their leader.

BJP leader and Union Minister Pon Radhakrishnan and State Fisheries Minister Jayakumar have arrived.

Congress president Rahul Gandhi, Andhra Pradesh chief minister Chandrababu Naidu are expected to arrive at Marina Beach shortly.
