Crowds continue to throng Karunanidhi’s burial site

Chennai: People continued to throng DMK president and five-time chief minister M Karunanidhi’s tomb through the night after his funeral in the evening.

Karunanidhi was buried 8 August evening near his mentor C N Annadurai’s memorial – as per his wish.

Though the government at first refused to give land to bury Karunanidhi in the Marina, and suggested land at Sardar Patel Road, the DMK knocked on the doors of the court and got permission.

The site was prepared hurriedly after the court granted permission and was ready by about 6 pm.

DMK cadres and Karunanidhi’s admirers who had come from different parts of the State, continued to throng the burial site after the rituals ended and the VIPs left.

It was the time for the common man to show his love for his 94-year-old leader and show it he did.
