Chennai: Residents and commuters living close to Anna Nedumpathai at Choolaimedu in the city are irked by its condition and want it to be re-laid before monsoon this year.
“Everyday, I commute to my office in Nelson Manickam Road through this path by bike and I get body pains due to its pathetic condition. It has a lot of holes and I have also witnessed three or four minor accidents here,” says V Narayanan, who lives in Vadapalani.
“The road is a busy stretch and has many shops and schools. The Corporation officials should consider either re-laying or atleast filling up the potholes. Many times, we had complained to the Councillors and other officials, but no action has been taken till now,” he added.
Few stated that the roads condition worsened after a spell of rain last week and the pits eventually filled up with water, thus making commuting risky.
S Kannan, a fruit vendor in the market, pointed out that it’s been more than five years since the road got renovated.
“Only if the local body elections are conducted, will there be a solution to this, Since a lot of motorists are subjected to difficulties, I personally filled some potholes with mud,” he said.
He also noted that the issue is majorly due to Corporation officials who dug up the lane for metro water works.
“After their work, they did not re-lay it,” he alleged.
Being a traffic-prone area during peak hours, residents say that the improper condition of the stretch is causing inconvenience to those who walk, and request the authorities concerned to take action at the earliest.
