Chennai: Addressing the grievances of residents in Saidapet in the city on the increasing menace of mosquitoes due to water weeds in the Adyar river, Saidapet MLA Ma Subramanian initiated cleaning work at the waterbody recently.

A press release said, the work commenced near Abhit Colony and will continue at other parts of the river also.

Commenting on the action, Tamilselvi, a resident said,ā€Since the rainy days are forthcoming, removing the weeds will allow free flow of rain water in the canal too. Also, this will prevent breeding of mosquitoes on the leaves of such plants.ā€
