Chennai: The RKM Science Centre in T Nagar was abuzz with activity, courtesy a Science expo that was conducted on recently.
Students of various city schools displayed their projects on the topic Sustainable Future at this hub situated at Ramakrishna Mission Higher Secondary School (South), Dhandapani Street.
The event, that was a part of RKM’s fifth anniversary celebrations, saw Indian Space Research Organisation Scientist D Gokul as the chief guest.
Briefing about the event, NT Nathan, co-ordinator of the centre said,“Over 100 students of 50 teams from about 20 schools such as Ramakrishna Mission and Sarada Vidyalaya chain of schools, DAV School, presented their projects conveying messages like eradication of plastic, waste management, pollution control, renewable energy, organic farming, herbal medicines at the venue.”
“The theme coincided with the National Science Day that was celebrated during February,” he added. Stating that the expo is an annual feature of RKM, Nathan said that it is open throughout the year for the benefit of students.
“Models displayed will be kept for public view at the centre and our faculty will explain the concepts,” he added.
Noting that the response has always been good, he said,”We continuously get feedback from various school authorities about their students representing and winning various other exhibitions and competitions, after attending our expo.”
The projects presented were evaluated by a panel of six professors from various city colleges and prizes worth over Rs 25,000 were given away, it is learnt.
Apart from projects of the competing teams, several scientific models from Agastya International Foundation were also displayed, he stated.
