Chennai: During a visit to the Institute of Child Health (ICH), a Japanese delegation commended the State for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and human milk bank on Friday.
A press release said the team also visited the outpatient department at ICH which was set-up with Japan International Cooperation Agency’s (JICA) funding and affirmed to bring it on par with world-class hospitals.
“With JICA’s aide, the government plans to implement schemes amounting to Rs 1,634 crores to enhance the infrastructure, quality of equipment and human resources in the hospitals present in rural and urban parts,” the release added.
The release further said, In addition, the Japan government has come up with a proposal to grant employment opportunities for Indian nurses in Japan’s healthcare segment and an assessment was also conducted for the same at the RGGH.
Following which, in discussion with Health Minister C Vijaya Baskar, the Japanese delegates acknowledged the efforts taken by the Health Department of the State to bring down the maternal and infant mortality rates.
The delegation headed by the Japan Embassy Principal Secretary Kenji Aya visited Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital (RGGH), Government Institute of Rehabilitation Medicine in KK Nagar and the ICH. Health Secretary J Radhakrishnan was also present.
