Chennai: “Not all movies that have a woman in posters will talk about their empowerment or feminism. But it is a happy sign to see stories being written for actresses,” says actress Samantha.

U Turn starring Samantha in the lead is releasing 13 September. Directed by Lucia fame Pawan Kumar, it revolves around the mystery behind the death of motorists who die tragic deaths after breaking traffic rules on a particular flyover in Bengaluru.

Speaking about the film, Samantha, says, ‘”U Turn has horror, crime and many more and I play a journalist.”

Excerpts from her interview
Q: Tell us about U-Turn.
A: It was first made in Kannada. I just saw the trailer and I was impressed. I asked my director to send the script and immediately expressed my willingness to do it. I was confident that a strong content can win at the box office without any big stars in it.

Even before knowing what response the movie would get, I felt this crisp script that runs for two hours, will be successful. Especially, the last 20 minutes has been re-written for Tamil audience, which will keep them at the edge of their seat. It almost takes you on a journey.

Q: On playing journalist in U Turn.
A: In Nadigayar Thilagam,  my role as a journalist. It was a period film. In U-Turn, I play a modern day scribe. But the one thing that didn’t change is women still fighting for a place in man’s world. She is constantly trying to prove herself at workplace and speak out for her rights.

Q: You have biggies lined up for release. How does it feels?
A: There is tremendous pressure. I should live up to the expectations of people. With more movies, my responsibilities grow higher.

Q: Your dream role(s).
A: I would like to do fantasy movies more. Also I have a passion for action-based characters.

Q: On being part of Irumbuthirai that completed 100 days.
A: It feels really good to receive 100th day shield for Irumbuthirai. I went to the theatre in Chennai recently and was happy to see the cinema hall full. The credits goes to the director (Mithran) and the entire team. He was very confident about the script. I am happy to be a part of a successful movie.
