Chennai: MLA and Mukkulathor Puli Padai party founder Karunas has been admitted to a private hospital, complaining of chest pain.
When the Tirunelveli police went in search of him at his home in Saligramam, with regard to a case, this morning, they were reportedly told that he had been admitted to a private hospital in Vadapalani.
According to reports he has been admitted to the ICU section of Sooriya Hospital.
Karunas was recently released from Vellore prison after he got bail in two cases: One was regarding his speech castigating Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami and another for indulging in violence during the IPL match in Chennai.
Yesterday, there were reports that he might be disqualified, along with two other MLAs, under the anti-defection law for raising the banner of revolt against the Chief Minister. Karunas, though he floated his own party just before the 2016 elections, faced the ballot under the two leaves symbol of the AIADMK.
The Tirunelveli police came looking for him last night in connection with the case where he is wanted for the attack on vehicles of Tamilnadu Thevar Peravai office-bearers last year in that district.
The Tiruneveli police had also registered a case against him for indulging in violence during the birth anniversary of Pulithevan. Karunas had sought anticipatory bail in the case in the Madurai bench of the Madras High Court, state reports.
