Chennai:Ā What started as a fun has become a sensation today, especially on Twitter. He may have been out of cinema for almost four years. But he is today the talk of the town thanks to social media. Dozens of individual accounts sharing pictures of actor Karan, video clips from his movies besides comparing him with contemporary mass heroes are the order of the day.
Next to Oviya Army that took Twitter by storm, comes Karan Army. It does not stop with that. Fans call themselves Karanians on social media and they go ga-ga over Karanism. Mostly cynical and sarcastic in their posts with a touch of humour, they keep their timeline active throwing pictures of the actor from his various movies.
Last seen in Uchathula Siva, Karan is mightily surprised by the recent developments.
Speaking to News Today, the Kokki actor, says, “I don’t know how I am going to repay them for their love. Though I am not on Twitter, my wife reads every single post and explains to me everything in detail.”
“I wonder what made them follow me, especially when I had taken a break from the industry. I thank the Almighty for it,” he adds.
“Initially, I took it as a joke. However, as days went by, I found they were posting things quite seriously. They have rather taken me closer to more and more people. I am indebted for their love,” he says, and adds, “A few days ago, I had been to watch a movie at a multiplex in Chennai. There were shouts of ‘Karan, Karan’ as I walked inside the mall. People surrounded me and took selfies and I had to reach the theatre after almost 20 minutes of the screening.”
Asked how he is going to respond to the ‘love’ of his fans, Karan, said, “I will strive to do good films for them. I will live up to their expectations. Talks are on for a big project. It will be different and innovative. A formal announcement will be made in a few weeks.”
“Kamal Haasan sir is my always my role model. He advised me to do films that should stay fresh in people’s minds even after 15 years. I follow it sincerely. My forthcoming film would satisfy all,” Karan says.
And he adds: “Things have always happened in a different way for me. I became hero after my debut as villain and then worked in many films as character artiste. Now, with people supporting me, I am sure I will have an extended innings in cinema.”
