Chennai: National Institute of Technology Tiruchi will unveil its five-year strategic plan (2019 to 2024) at its campus tomorrow. The plan will be launched by Union Minister for Human Resource Development Prakash Javadekar.
Addressing mediapersons here on Wednesday, NIT-Tiruchi Director Mini Shaji Thomas said, “The five year strategic plan focuses on teaching, learning, research, collaboration, sustainability and infrastructure. We are currently ranked between 800 to 1000 in the QS world ranking systems. We aim to be ranked above 500.”
She said that by the end of the strategic plan NIT-Tiruchi aims to achieve better placement record, increase the employability rate of students and help create start-ups. “The institute is also gearing up to welcome more international students and faculty,” Mini said.
NIT-Tiruchi will also inaugurate a new Centre of Dynamic Excellence (CoDE). It has been set up at the cost of Rs 190 crore with Siemens as the technology-partner. Ninety per cent of the fund was received as a grant from Siemens while 10 per cent was funded by NIT. According to a press statement, the primary focus of this centre is to create a robust technical education eco-system through its experience in industrial products and services.
Head of Siemens Centre of Excellence, M Duraiselvam said, “Siemens identified the best skill development courses by analysing reports and found which offers better employment opportunities. Thirty courses have been chosen so far each ranging from 10 to 15 hours worth of training.”
The centre besides skill development courses is also said to offer consultancy, research and development services to industries in design and validation, advanced manufacturing, test and optimization, automation, electrical and energy savings, process instrumentation, mechatronics, CNC machines, CNC controller, robotics, rapid prototyping and internet of things.
