Chennai: Top seed Divesh Gahlot battled from sunlight to floodlight and eventually overcame Sammr Raina 7-5, 7-5 in the under-16 first round of the Fenesta Open Junior National Tennis Championship on Monday.

“I played last week here and it was bad week. I am looking forward to this week as the Fenesta Open is like a dream for players of my generation. I hope to play my best,” said Divesh.

In the under-14 boys’ event, top seed Udit Gogoi roared past Rohan Aggarwal 6-1, 6-0. “I played a great match. Being the top seed I would like to play more, win more matches and give my best in the under 14 and 16 category,” said Udit.

Among the girls under-14, Pavitra Parikh from Gujarat was in sublime form as she beat Chandini Srinivasan 6-0, 6-1.
