Chennai: The 50th year of National Service Scheme was celebrated by NSS students at Zion Matriculation Higher Secondary School in Madambakkam in the city as Anti-Plastic Awareness Day.
As part of the programme, a seven-day special camp, that took place recently helped the students take part in various events.
A rally too was conducted against the usage of plastics, even as saplings were planted around the locality.
Sources said a clean-up drive was organised in spiritual places. Speaking to this paper, NSS officer Selvaston Prabhu said volunteers play an important role in the future of the nation.
āThe present-day students are aware and clear of what they want. This gives them a platform to get to know about the outside world. During the seven-day camp, students were asked not to use any electronic gadgets during the sessions,ā he said. He further said guest lectures on various topics were conducted on each day.
L S S Mohan, the chief guest during the inauguration, spoke about the ill-effects of plastics and how NSS nurtures good habits in students at a young age. School principal Sivasankari spoke on the occasion. For details, contact 9840907030.
