N Ramalakshmi receiving the CEMCA award from Governor Purohit.

Chennai: Among the 321 staff members of Coimbatore K P R Group of Companies who graduated from Tamil Nadu Open University this year, N Ramalakshmi came out in flying colours and  bagged the CEMCA award.

According to a note from K P R Mill Limited, apart from Ramalakshmi, K Preetha, S Amudha, E Magesh, Kaviyarasi, S Manjula, P Deepika, and P Sathya have topped the list of graduates and won gold medals. Also, 38 other women staff have bagged silver and bronze medals.

The graduands received their degree certificates from Tamilnadu Governor and University Chancellor Banwarilal Purohit recently.

While Higher Education Minister K P Anbalagan felicitated the students, MSSRF founder and agricultural scientist, M S Swaminathan, delivered the convocation address.

TNOU Vice-Chancellor, Dr M Bhaskaran, welcomed the gathering and read out the annual report.

The K P R Group, that has been encouraging women staff to also get educated while working with them, will, as it has been doing since 2011, organise a grand function to felicitate and award the successful graduates and their parents on Sunday.

According to K P R Group vice-president K Somasundaram, chairman K P Ramaswamy encourages his women workers to get educated by providing from Rs 10,000 to Rs 1 lakh as increment depending on the marks they secure in the final exam.

Ramaswamy’s brothers K P D Sikamani (MD) and P Nataraj (MD), son Ananda Krishnan (ED) and son-in-law E K Sakthivel (ED) help him realise his dream of an empowered women workforce.
