Asst Sub postmaster receives ‘Dak Seva Award’ for her contribution

Chennai: She has two winning qualities – passion for and dedication to work. This has brought her laurels and made her a role model for others.

R Prabha, Assistant Post Master, Ashok Nagar, in the city, received the ‘Dak Sewa Award’ for her contribution to postal service during the Postal Week celebrations at Bharthiya Vidya Bhavan, Mylapore, on 10 October.

Governor Banwarilal Purohit presented the award to Prabha, which carried a cash prize of Rs 5,000 and a citation.

Speaking to News Today, Prabha said, “I always give personal attention to each and every customer in Ashok Nagar Post Office. Apart from my regular work, I give top priority to business development.”

Being an MA graduate in English, Prabha joined as Postal Assistant in 1992 and served in various branches in Thanjavur, Madurai, Delhi and Chennai.

As an officiating Sub Post Master (HSG I), she conducted 68 savings bank melas during 2017-18 which resulted in opening of 9,046 accounts making Ashok Nagar Sub Office the first to achieve the target assigned for 2017-18.

Prabha has also created awareness among school children about the small savings schemes which yielded more than 500 savings bank accounts from them. Her promotion of Prime Minister’s Insurance Scheme led to opening of 441 accounts, 12 Atal Pension Yojna and 180 Suganya Samridhi Accounts.

She has made use of every opportunity that has come her way. She got 203 accounts opened during ‘Maha Sivarathri’ festival at Malligeswarar Temple at Ashok Nagar. Social media, too, has come in handy for her. Through WhatsApp, she was able to sell 197 My stamp sheet and helped 2,167 people to update their Aadhaar card.

Prabha thanked her higher officials S Ranganathan, Senior Superintendent of Post Office, Chennai City South Division, Kamala and Srividhya Assistant Superintendents of Post Office, and her colleagues for motivating her.

The Assistant Post Master also thanked her family – husband K Hayagreevan and daughter Srinidhi Hayagreevan for supporting her in the profession.
