Chennai: A man was arrested by the police for allegedly assaulting a police constable in the wee hours of today at Kumaran Nagar.
According to the police, Shankar (29), a resident of Saidapet was arrested this morning for hitting Grade One police constable Saravanan.
At 3 am, Saravanan was on patrol when he saw Shankar roaming at Vadivel Street and asked him what he was doing there at this time of the day.
In response, Shankar hit him hard, pushed him to the ground and fled. Saravanan alerted the remaining members of his team, where Shankar was arrested and brought to the police station.
A police source said, “Shankar was in an inebriate condition when he assaulted Saravanan, who was in uniform.”
Kumaran Nagar police have registered a case.
