Chennai: With just a day to go for Vijay’s Sarkar to hit the screens, posters have come up in various parts of the State hailing the actor as the next Chief Minister. However, this has won brickbats from many.
Directed by A R Murugadoss, the movie stars Vijay, Keerthy Suresh, Varalaxmi Sarathkumar and Radharavi among others. Music is by A R Rahman.
As the trailer suggests, it is a political satire and Vijay plays an NRI businessman who returns to Tamilnadu to create a political revolution.
However even before the movie could release, it saw a bitter war over the story. One Varun Rajendran claimed that it was his story and Murugadoss lifted it. Eventually both arrived at a compromise when the case came up for hearing before the Madras High Court.
Overzealous Vijay fans have been all over social media hailing Sarkar to be Vijay’s big step towards politics. And posters this morning on the walls in Chennai received flak as they carried images of all those who served as Chief Minister of Tamilnadu and finally pointing to Vijay as the next to sit on the chair.
âActors can enter politics. The likes of Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan have been in the business for long and even took some concrete steps towards entering politics. For an actor like Vijay it is too early and his fans’ behaviour in open forums are pathetic. It is time that the actor urges his fans to conduct themselves well before he wish to enter politics with their support,â says a social activist D Raja.
âThere were occasions when they were condemned for trolling women and journalists in social media. The language that they use is pathetic. They are hailing Vijay as Tamilnadu’s next Chief Minister,â he adds.
Interestingly Vijay has stayed away from promotions as usual and maintains a low profile.
EXORBITANT RATES
The movie is set for a mega release as maximum theatres in the State will screen Sarkar from tomorrow. The first day tickets for the movie especially in suburban screens are sold at higher prices flouting government norms. âI desperately wanted two tickets. I had to spend nearly Rs 2000,â said an ardent Vijay fan Kannan.
Meanwhile a theatre in Thanjavur has decided not to screen the movie alleging that the distributors are compelling them to sell tickets at higher rates.
Ranee Paradise tweeted, ‘Since we have not agreed to “Sarkar” Distributor’s condition of selling all tickets in Black for more than Rs.200 for the 1st 2 days, we will not screen Sarkar. We always want to provide good cinema in an Ethical Manner. Actor Vijay should practice what he preaches’.
