Chennai: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and National president of Telugu Desam Party Chandrababu Naidu who has been openly rallying forces against the BJP ahead of the next Parliamentary elections will meet DMK President Stalin here tomorrow.
Stalin also has a meeting scheduled with the general secretary of the Marxist Communist party, Sitharam Yechury on 13 November. It is expected that CPI(M) will announce its alliance with the DMK for next year’s Lok Sabha elections.
It is an open secret now that opposition parties have started to unite against the BJP. Chandra Babu Naidu has been the most vocal amongst the rallying leaders after his party’s bitter fallout with the BJP alliance as the Centre ‘refused to give aid for his State and its new capital Amaravati’, after Andhra Pradesh’s split.
Last week, Naidu met with Congress president Rahul Gandhi and announced the alliance between the two parties. After joining hands with Congress, Naidu said, “DMK under the leadership of Stalin, should continue its alliance with Congress.”
Rahul Gandhi also wished that all opposition parties join hands to defeat BJP in the Parliamentary elections.
Stalin had welcomed the move and supported Naidu’s statement that the alliances were formed out of a democratic compulsion to protect the nation.
The meeting between Stalin and Naidu tomorrow will bolster the call for unity among the opposition parties and is expected to hasten the process of a grand alliance of south Indian parties to thwart BJP’s dominance in the nation.
Chandrababu Naidu has already met Communist leader Sitharam Yechury, Nationalist Congress party chief, Sharad Pawar, chairman of Jammu & Kashmir National Conference, Farooq Abdullah and Samajwadi party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav.
