Chennai: Constable Dharmaraj sent shock waves among his counterparts last week after he went on a rant over his walkie-talkie that Inspector Ravichandran denied him leave to attend the final rites of his mother who passed away earlier this month.

This tainted the image of Ravichandran who vented out his anger by pulling Dharmaraj down from a moving two-wheeler, the video of which went viral Saturday.

The CCTV footage of Ravichandran’s act, on a busy junction in the city, shocked all and the Inspector was suspended by Commissioner A K Viswanathan on Monday.

With multiple injuries, Dharmaraj, after being treated at Government Kilpauk Hospital, is now taking rest at his home as per doctors’ advice.

CCTV grabs of Ravichandran pushing Dharmaraj down from his two-wheeler.

Speaking to ‘News Today‘, his wife Sridevi who had filed a complaint against Ravichandran at Abhiramipuram police station, said, “My husband is satisfied over the suspension of the Inspector. He says it was the right thing to do for what he suffered.”

When asked if any senior police officials reached out to the family, she said, “Nobody called us so far. We do not have any support other than the media asking for bytes.”

Sridevi, a homemaker, lives in Pudupet police quarters with her husband and two-school going children. Sha said they are worried about how the department inquiry in this matter would go.

“They have not called him (Dharmaraj) yet. But he is worried over the result of the inquiry,” she said.
Talking about his health condition she says, “He is unable to get up from the bed. He has a fracture on his shoulder and on his toe apart from abrasions. Doctors say he should be on bed rest for a month. If it does not heal he may have to go for a surgery.”

Sridevi said the incident has changed their lives. “He always took leaves with prior permission. He had never gone to work drunk.” According to Ravichandran, Dharmaraj was under the influence of alcohol when he ‘caught’ him.
