Chennai: Until recently, several cinema halls across the State ran on 2k projectors, 2D projections, ordinary screens and Dolby audio. After the announcement of Rajinikanth’s 2.0, to be released in 3D format, all theatre-owners were pushed to upgrade the facilities and go all the way to implement the state-of-the art facility.
Even remote single screens on the outskirts of Chennai have opted for 3D, silver screen and special audio facilities. Says a theatre owner, “People have shown less enthusiasm for 2D screening of the film. Hence, we are forced to go for an upgrade.”
In a sense, it would open avenues for coming out with more 3D theatres. Filmmakers and producers would be emboldened to come out with technically-rich films in future, he adds.
Cinema halls like GK in Porur have installed 4D audio facility, the latest to be introduced in the country, while Vettri Cinemas in Chrompet has opted for RGB laser projection. It will have 35 billion colours, scintillating visuals with 3D technology.
Reports say that Rajini Rasigar Mandram has instructed fans to avoid fanfare, especially in the delta regions, when the movie is released as the areas have suffered a lot due to severe cyclonic storm Gaja.
Directed by Shankar and produced by Lyca, 2.0 has Rajinikanth, Amy Jackson and Akshay Kumar in lead roles. Music is by A R Rahman. It is releasing in several thousand screens in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi Thursday.
