Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan lighting the traditional lamp to mark an event to discuss new trends in cancer care at Thiruvananthapuram, recently. Apollo Hospitals Group chairman Dr Prathap C Reddy is present.

Chennai: Apollo Hospitals will foray into Kerala with a 250-bed super-speciality hospital in Angamaly, Kochi, and operations are scheduled to begin in four to six months.

The announcement was made by Apollo Hospitals Group chairman, Dr Prathap C Reddy, in the presence of Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan at an event in Thiruvananthapuram to discuss new trends in cancer care.

“We are happy to enter God’s own Country – Kerala with world-class super-speciality hospital in partnership with the Adlux Group,” Dr Prathap said.

Apollo has signed a contract where the hospital would be responsible for all operations and management, and Adlux Group will be the infrastructure partners.

Speaking on the occasion, the Apollo chief also announced its support to rebuild the infrastructure of primary healthcare centres (PHCs) damaged during recent floods in Kerala in collaboration with the Government of Kerala.

Under the agreement, Apollo Hospitals would reconstruct the PHC at Kakkodi, Kozhikode district, and hand it over to the government.

“It is our responsibility as healthcare custodians to contribute to the well-being of the people who have faced nature’s fury this year. This PHC is a small gesture of our support to aid them in their recovery from the natural disaster,” he said.

The 250 beds Apollo Adlux Hospital will have 50 beds exclusively dedicated for critical care. The hospital will begin services as a tertiary care hospital with an advanced oncology section planned for the next phase.

Super speciality departments like cardiac care, trauma care, orthopaedics, neurosciences, gastro sciences, kidney, with all affiliated specialities and sub-specialities will come up, said a statement from the hospital.
