22 schools in Chennai take part in ‘Aurora 2018’

It was a day of science and experiments at Chinmaya Vidyalaya Senior Secondary School, Virugambakkam, where the annual science-based interschool competition titled ‘Aurora 2018’ was held recently.

Tamilnadu Science and Technology Centre Executive Director, Soundara Rajaperumal, inaugurated the event, where students from 22 schools took part.

Various competitions were conducted at different levels. For the students of nursery section, it was Wizkids, wherein the children with the help of models explained some simple concepts in science.

For classes one and two, Ciphertext – a puzzle-solving competition, while for classes three and four, Funtatrick magicians – a magic in science event and for classes five and six, it was Einsteins Playwares, a model making competition using the given science kit helped nurture their interest in science and rouse their curiosity.

Similarly, for classes seven and eight, a science quest comprising of quiz and Pragmatize ‘n’ Prove, a concept demonstration competition was held.

The highlight of the event was the Sci-Pi, an event where the incorporation of maths and science in explaining a concept was made by the students of class nine and 10. A symposium on interesting topics was also held.

A teacher from the organising committee of the school said, “Aurora is organised every year just to provide a space and an opportunity to the students to work as a team, strengthen their potential, explore science. In short, we say it – imagine, invent and inspire.”

At the valedictory function, Kolaperumal Chetty Vaishnav Senior Secondary School, Arumbakkam director, L Neelakantapillai, distributed prizes to the winners.

The overall championship trophy was bagged by the students of PSBB Senior Secondary School, K K Nagar.
