Being a motorist in the neighbourhood already has its own set of complications. Adding to that is the recent one near Ambattur OT bus stand.
The median near the place that is missing is creating chaos commuters state.
“People dart into the other lane through the missing median without even signalling that they are going to do so. Thus, they put other motorists’ lives into risk,” said Anand, a resident.
The police have placed barricades at the spot just to prevent that from happening. However, people just moved them and carry on with their journey, not realising the risk involved, he said.
The road sees thousands of motorists go by on either side. With pedestrians trying to dart across from one side to another and with motorists turning suddenly without caution, accidents have been common, state residents.
“I have seen at least a couple of minor accidents in just three days. I think people do not understand the problem in its entirety. It is only when something grave happens that the authorities will come to do their work. I certainly hope they pull up their socks and constantly monitor the junction before something happens,” added Anand.
When ‘News Today‘ encountered with some motorists and questioned them as to why they choose to cross the road in such a dangerous point, they stated that it is the shortest path and that they are well aware of the situation.
Some said the presence of a textile shop on the other side means people will always try to cross to that side and that the cops must try and stop motorists from taking a turn and keep the place a crossing for pedestrians alone.
