Chennai: Women of Tamilandu can now feel a little safer as a special helpline has been launched for them.
Launching the toll-free helpline number ‘181’, Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami said it could be used to report any problem that women face.
Women can contact this number to report threats if they face any, sexual harassment or even dowry harassment cases, states a report quoting the Chief Minister.
After the Nirbhaya incident in Delhi, where a paramedical student was brutally raped on a bus and died a few days later, the Central government launched this 181 helpline. This number is in use in Delhi and Gujarat.
Now, Tamilnadu is joining the list of States where women can seek immediate help by calling this number.
The office will function at Amma Call Centre in Ambattur, Chennai, and would have assistance from five advocates, five psychological counsellors and one information technology expert.
The phone numbers and details of all police stations in Tamilnadu have been linked to the 181 helpline, so that problems of women reported from any part of the State can be dealt with pronto.
