If you are into dirt bike racing, Gandhi Street in Keelkattalai is the best place to sharpen your riding skills.
No kidding! This street, even after more than a week since rains halted, is still filled with water that encompass potholes the size of craters throughout the stretch.
Speaking to News Today, Gangadaran R, a resident of the street, said, “This stretch lies opposite to Balaji Nagar Park. It comes under ward 14. The area got developed around five years ago and now has concrete structures throughout. What lacks here is good tarmac. For five years, us residents have been struggling as the road is muddy and during the rainy season turns slippery.”
“Every time we approach the officials, we either get diverted to a different department or get assurances which never get fulfilled. With no Councillors for the past two years, things have got even worse with no one attending to our woes. What’s even more worrying is the lingering stagnation. Even if rains stop, water accumulation will prevail for more than 10 days. At least now officials should pay heed to our problems and lay tarmac at the earliest here,” he added.
It is to be noted that like Gandhi Street, there are many other stretches in Madipakkam, Keelkattalai, Ullagaram, Puzhuthivakkam, Kovilambakkam and Sunnambu Kolathur which are nothing but muddy pathways. Where there are roads, SWDs are absent.
