Writer S Ramakrishnan being honoured for winning the Sahitya Akademi award.

Chennai: “When women win, it means the entire society is winning,” said actor Parthiban who was the chief guest for the release of Nangam Vidhi, a pilot short-film of budding city-based filmmaker Anu Sathya at Sathyam Cinemas on Sunday.

“When I was invited for this movie, I accepted without a second thought as it’s time we appreciate budding talents. The movie’s screenplay and characterisation were brilliant,” Parthiban said and added in his own style that, Vaipoo (opportunity) is the only poo (flower) that’s difficult to get.

“But the makers of this film have successfully capitalised on their opportunity. During my days, there wasn’t a platform called short film. The only option we had was to read out our script to the director and try convincing him. Now, with the advent of this technology, I wish everyone to make use of it,” he added.

Post his speech, Parthiban presented a memento to the guest of honour S Ramakrishnan, renowned writer who recently won Sahitya Akademi award. Speaking on the occasion, Ramakrishnan, said, “I was greatly surprised seeing the movie. The plot and the flow of the story were just like what one would get from a writer. Cinema is changing and many budding directors are making excellent short films. A day will come when short films are charged for viewing.”

Actor Parthiban Radhakrishnan, writer S Ramakrishnan, writer Balakrishnan, actor Madhan Bob, actor Ram G, director Anu Sathya along with Naangaam Vidhi crew were present for the screening at 6 Degrees, Sathyam Cinemas, Sunday.

Director Mithran, who also addressed the gathering, said, “I never knew Anu had this much potential and I wish she shares her ideas even better with me in my projects. As far as love is considered, it can be portrayed better only by women which this movie proves.”

Actor Ramji, the lead actor of the film, said, “Anu was highly sure-footed in her actions. She was very clear in her approach and would fight until she achieves her goals. For example, during the shooting process, a two-day footage got corrupted in her hard disk. But, without losing hope, she followed up with the hard disk firm making countless calls. At one point in time, the company sent two of its officials to Chennai from abroad who recovered data for her. That’s her determination.”

Following this, stunt choreographer Jaguar Thangam, actor Madan Bob, celebrity psychologist Abilasha, renowned journalist Rangaraj appreciated the film and its crew.
