Chennai: The State School Education Department has announced that teachers in government schools will not have a service period extension from next academic year. It is said an official order would be passed soon on this.
The Finance Department has questioned the School Education Department why there should be an extension system when there are already excess teachers in the State.
As per the existing system, when a teacher takes a break in the middle of an academic year, s/he will be given one more year of service extension. This can be taken three times by every teacher.
The Finance Department has found that it is a waste of money as the School Education Department already has more teachers than the basic requirement.
LEAVE RULE
Another order passed by the School Education Department asked the headmasters of schools to take immediate action when a teacher is found to be taking leave without prior notice or information. The order applies to the non-teaching staff as well, the department said.
