Chennai: Coast Guard Commander (Eastern Seaboard), Additional Director General K R Nautiyal embarked onboard ICGS Shaunak on Friday and witnessed the operational readiness of Coast Guard Eastern Fleet.
The Eastern Fleet comprises one pollution control vessel, four offshore patrol vessels, one fast patrol vessel, two interceptor boats and four aircraft which includes two Dorniers and two Chetaks.
The fleet showcased its prowess to discharge the Coast Guard chartered roles and to meet any exigency at sea, including interdiction operation for coastal security and mass rescue operations at sea.
The operational readiness exercise showcased other multiple ship operations including stationing manoeuvres, boarding operation, and search and rescue by CG Dornier and Chetaks.
The Flag Officer interacted with Commanding Officers and the men in uniform during his visit. He also reviewed the progress of infrastructure-related issues for the units located in Tamilnadu.
Nautiyal was accompanied by Tatrakshika President (Eastern Seaboard) Sunita Nautiyal.
They visited the Mandapam station on 19 December and thereafter visited the Coast Guard Regional Headquarters (East) Chennai on Friday.
Commander Coast Guard Region (East), Inspector General S Paramesh, and president, Tatrakshika (East), Priya Paramesh welcomed the Flag Officer.
