Gone are the days when rasikas in the suburbs had to head to Mylapore or T Nagar to experience the Margazhi music season.
Now, with a host of sabhas set up in the neighbourhood itself, residents are a happy lot this December.
Much to the delight of one-and-all, Chrompet Cultural Academy (CCA), the first of its kind in the locality, is organising ‘Margazhi Mahotsavam Music Festival,’ from 29 December to 3 January.
Speaking about this, its joint secretary, G Nagarajan said, “This year, we are introducing junior artistes from other countries and the schedule is planned in such a way that it breaks the monotony of regular concerts.”
Jayanthi Kumaresh, M Narmadha and Niranjana Srinivasan are few of the famous artistes lined-up to perform this season. The sabha that focuses on keeping the traditional art alive by offering a platform to perform, is the only one in the suburbs to have an auditorium of its own.
Also, the programmes that are scheduled in its premises, are not ticketed, it is learnt.
In a nice gesture, the team also invites rasikas to send their choice of kirtans to be sung by artistes to 94446 90174.

Shree Ram Samaj, yet another Chrompet organisation, is hosting a music festival which is on till 25 December at Vasantha Mandapam, Radha Nagar. Popular artist O S Thyagarajan is said to be performing on the last day.
“This is the 44th year of organising the event and we have been getting good crowds,” commented one of the organisers, Seshadri.
Rasikas can offer donations as per their will and can be contacted at 95001 96316.Ā Sri Balasubramaniya Swami Satsang, on the other hand, presents a month-long kutcheri in the month of January, that will see singers like Shobana Swaminathan, S Kasthuri Rangan, Sankari Subramaniyan and V Gopala Sundara Bhagavathar, performing.
The programme is scheduled at Sri Arunagirinathar Arangam, Kumaran Kundram between 6.30 and 8.30 pm. For details, contact 044 2223 5319 or 97106 43967.
