Chennai: Even one would be too much in a residential area like Choolaimedu. But the residents of the area have to put up with two TASMAC shops, near the Choolaimedu bus stop.

Though the general public is bothered by the obnoxious behaviour of the drunkards, it is the women and children who are affected the most. They are unable to use the bus stop because the drunkards either fight among themselves and speak unparliamentary words, or direct them at the women.

When this correspondent was crossing the area, an old man who had had one too many swigs from the liquor bottle, was directing unspeakable words at the women passing by. It was pathetic to see the women scurrying past, closing their ears.

Locals say that the two shops are located tantalisingly on the road that they will tempt even those who do not want to drink.

Members of the public want the government to listen to their woes and either close down the shops or shift them out.
