Mumbai: A 14-year-old chess champion from Tamilnadu is tearing through the opposition of Chess Grand Masters at the EKA IIFL Investment Managers, Mumbai International Chess Tournament.
The local lad, Balasubramaniam H, rated 2270 (rank 52) in a crucial one on one encounter with Visakh N R (rated 2491) won the match on Board 3 on Thursday.
He will now square off against Grand Master Ankit R Rajpara in Round 6.
Earlier in the tournament, Balasubramaniam gave a spectacular display of brilliance by taking down Vietnamese IM Nguyen Van Huy (rated 2438) after having earlier drawn with Bangladeshi GM Ziaur Rahman (rated 2468) in Round 2 and then defeating Russian GM Maxim Lugovskoy (2445) in Round 3. Bala’s feat has so far earned him a performance rating of 2606 and an increase of 72 rating points.
