Chennai: Fetal Care Research Foundation, an NGO that provides support to fetal care diagnostics for the economically disadvantaged families, organised a pre-natal screening awareness camp at Mediscan Systems, Royapettah recently.
According to a press release, the foundation’s managing trustee Dr Suresh inaugurated the awareness camp and released pamphlets. Following which a team of doctors and dietitians explained the benefits of planned pregnancy to the fetus.
“It is said that during each pregnancy 4-5 per cent chances are there for birth defects. To rule out any abnormality, pregnancy screening is a must,” the release said.
Speaking at the camp, Dr Indirani Suresh said, “January is regarded as the month to observe National Birth Defects Prevention Month, hence the camp is conducted.”
It is also stated tha ultrasound scan is the main tool for detecting fetal anomalies. Ultrasound during three different gestational age will help people to diagnose the condition of the baby. With which, necessary steps can be taken. About 50 pregnant women and many from the public attended the camp.
