House owners can do police verification online

Chennai: The city Commissioner of Police, A K Viswanathan, seems to be on a mission to revolutionise the department. After bringing the metropolis under CCTV cover, he is making several services online for the benefit of citizens.

This morning, along with his wife and ADGP of State Crime Records Bureau, Seema Agarwal, he launched Police Verification Services (PVS)- an online portal to avail certificates instead of visiting the police station. This will help house owners and employeers get a verified police certificate to ensure whether a candidate is free of any criminal background.

The online portal has Self-Verification, Job Verification, Tenant Verification and Domestic Help Verification facilities.

Speaking at event Viswanathan said, “The aim of the Police Verification Services is to verify the identity of a person, his/her current address and to check if he/she is involved in any criminal case as per records available with Tamilnadu Police. This service is applicable only for verifying the persons who are residing in Tamilnadu. The many online services launched recently have been successful. FIR and Lost Document Report (LDR) services are being used by lakhs of people. Making these facilities online is easier for citizens as they need not come to police stations.”

Seema Agarwal said that the launching of such online services has brought the citizens and police closer and is hassle free, “City police has sent out nearly 47 lakh messages to people in the past few years. Around three lakh people have used the LDR facility and 5.5 lakh people have accessed the FIR copy online. Even as we put the Police Verification Services online for testing purposes, around 100 people applied for it.”

Citizens can apply for Police Verification service certificate on the www.eservices.tnpolice.gov.in.

Earlier those applying for this certificate had to send a Demand Draft (DD) of Rs 1000. Now they can make an online payment of Rs 500 per application for individuals.

Private Companies or institutions will have to pay Rs 1000 (earlier it was Rs 3000).
