K Balakrishnan

Coimbatore: K Balakrishnan,Ā Secretary of Tamilnadu unit of CPI (M), stated on Tuesday that the 10 per cent reservation for economically backward sections introduced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi was politically motivated. He further added that it should not be brought in without any debate.

Speaking to reporters here,Ā Balakrishnan said the BJP was trying to stay in power after the Lok Sabha elections, by introducing the quota. It is a dream that wouldn’t come true.

He further said the second Global Investors Meet was an eyewash. Referring to the Sterlite issue, Balakrishnan said only an ordinance would provide a permanent solution.

He also voiced his view on the Sabarimala violence. He said the Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan was taking the correct steps. On the nationwide trade unionĀ bandhĀ against the anti-workers’ policies of the Central government, Balakrishnan said the strike was a success.
