Chennai: Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami today inaugurated the Municipal Administration Building that was built at a cost of Rs 73.08 crore at MRC Nagar on Santhome High Road.
The newly constructed Municipal Administration Building houses the Municipality and Town Commissionerate and Town Panchayat Directorate.
Earlier, the Municipality and Town Commissionerate were functioning from Ezhilagam in Chepauk and the Town Panchayat Directorate was working from the Kuralagam building in George Town.
The authorities were repeatedly complaining that the offices were cramped for space and needed a bigger and better-equipped building for better functioning.
Following this, these two offices have been shifted to the new Municipal Administration Building in MRC Nagar.
The new building has 12 floors including the ground floor and has a total floor space of 11,000 square feet.
Deputy Chief Minister O Pannerselvam and Minister for Municipal Administration SP Velumani were among those present during the inauguration.
