Hyderabad: “India’s independence was hard fought and it must be preserved from Savarkar’s heirs,” said AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi Wednesday, apparently targeting BJP and RSS.
Lok Sabha member from Hyderabad, Owaisi is known to be a bitter critic of BJP and RSS. Taking to twitter, he said 30 January is the date of independent India’s first terror attack which was carried out by Nathuram Godse, whose guru was Vinayak Damodar Savarkar.
Mahatma Gandhi was assassinated on 30 January 1948 and nine accused were tried for the conspiracy and the murder. The trial court on 10 February 1949, convicted seven accused and acquitted one. The accused Godse and Narayan Apte were given death sentence.
