PIL against making Chinna Thambi into a Kumki


Chennai: A PIL was filed in the High Court today opposing the decision of making the elephant Chinna Thambi into a Kumki (an elephant which is trained in captive).

Sources said the petition was filed by animal activist Arun Prasad. The petitioner has said the elephant should be left in the forest.

“Proper guidelines should be framed while transporting wild animals to another place. Necessary action should be taken to bring an end to human-animal conflict,” the petition stated.

Judges said the case will be take up for hearing afternoon. Chinnathambi, which was captured in Periya Thadagam area was left at the forest area at Top Slip in Pollachi. However, the pachyderm did not stay there long and had travelled more than 100 kms and was last spotted at Maivadi near Palani.
