In what is a matter of pride to the neighbourhood, a senior police officer, K Sankara Subramanian, a longtime resident of Lake View Road, Chennai, is all set to receive the prestigious President of India’s Police Medal, for his outstanding services in the department. Currently an Inspector (Vigilance and Anti-Corruption), Subramanian, has earlier served in different positions and departments like Railway Police and CB-CID.
The officer, who had also been previously awarded the ‘Anna’ medal from the State government, a couple of years ago, speaks to News Today.
“My childhood was unforgettable at Kallaidaikurichi town in Thirunelveli, where I loved sports. Having excelled in various events at school and college levels, my life took a different turn when we came to the city,” he begins.
“Although I got an opportunity to work with an automobile major, my love for uniformed service was still burning high. I was subsequently selected as Sub-Inspector of Police, which gave a start to my career,” he adds.
On being selected for the President’s Police Medal, he says, “Right from my first day in the department, I have worked with dedication and served with utmost sincerity. I feel honoured to have been chosen for this award,” and adds, “My mother Lakshmi Ammal and wife Sivagami were constant sources of support.”
Subramanian also expresses his gratitude to two personalities in Mambalam – Professor Thiagarajan (Sanskrit scholar) and PS Chandrasekaran of Vadivelpuram (English scholar).
“While the former taught me values of dharma sastra and Vedas, Chandrasekaran sir showed me how to be polite and imparted his knowledge on Behavioural Sciences. All this has helped me in a huge way to handle various kinds of people,” he notes.
Apart from this, the officer is an ardent lover of music and attends concerts happening in-and-around the neighbourhood.
“I am staunch believer of God and pray for a minute before initiating action at work. As for listening to music, it relieves my stress,” he says. Notably, his younger brother, Raman, also involves himself in social activities in the area, it is learnt.
