700 top bodybuilders to compete in Mr India championship in Chennai

Chennai: Country’s top male and female body-building athletes and physique sport athletes will compete for this year’s Mr. India Senior Men’s and Women’s National bodybuilding championships to be held here next month.

Announcing the championship, Indian Body Builders Federation secretary Chetan Pathare said, “The championship is held in Chennai for the first time under the aegis of the Indian Body Builders Federation. We have got 10 weight categories in the event in which about 700 athletes from 43 State associations, Union Territories and government sports boards affiliated to it will take part.”

“Bodybuilding is the mother of all sports. This is the most prestigious championship of the sport. There has been so much response for the sports from female athletes now. Now, we want to make the sport as No. 1 in the country,’ added Chetan Pathare.

Talking about the Tamilnadu Amateur Body Building Association, he said, “It is the earliest of bodybuilding associations ever formed and has been functional since 1975. The State also has produced many athletes like Baskaran, Balamurugan, Jayaprakash, Senthil Kumaran and others who have represented India in the international level. All of them will participate in the tourney along with other top bodybuilders and I am sure the competition will be tough,” he said.

The championship will be held from 29 to 31 March at Jeppiaar Auditorium here in which 30 men bodybuilders and two women will represent Tamilnadu.
