Chennai: In an effort to improve digital pathology, Neuberg Diagnostics has joined hands with US-based OptraSCAN Inc to launch ‘Neuberg DIGIPATH, powered by OptraSCAN Inc’.

A network for pathologists based in India, UAE and South Africa, the venture offers services to digitise tissue slides and telepathology required by hospitals, medical institutes and doctors.

Speaking to mediapersons here yesterday, founder and chairman of Neuberg Diagnostics, Dr G S K Velu, said the venture will be formed in three months. “Digital pathology is still growing in India. The instruments cost over Rs 2 crore and it is extremely difficult to afford. But our services will help private hospitals or pathologists send their samples which we can digitise.”

He also noted that the instruments are made in Pune under the ‘Make in India’ initiative.

Better technology

Through this venture, Neuberg Diagnostics and OptraSCAN also aim to provide labs with cutting-edge technology that will benefit pathologists. Their services include OptraSCAN’S 15-slide brightfield digital pathology scanner, image management tools, telepathology software platform and also Neuberg’s histopathology network, says a release.

Advanced network

Director of Digital Pathology, OptraSCAN.Inc, Anagha Jadhav, explained the benefits. ‘We use a network where pathologists can access similar case files and review them. With a unique ID to log into our network, any doctor or pathologist can access these case files to study,’ said Anagha. ‘We can also extend our services to villages and towns.’
