VIT Riviera concludes: Sastra College emerges winners in arts & culture


Vellore: Vellore Institute of Technology’s (VIT’s) four-day annual international sports and cultural carnival Riviera 2019, concluded at the college campus in Vellore on Sunday. Sastra College, Thanjavur, bagged the championship trophy in arts and cultural category while VIT, Vellore, won the championship trophy in sports.

Actor-singer Shruti Haasan delivered the valedictory address and presented the trophies to the championship winners, prizes and certificates to the winners of various events. Prizes and certificates worth Rs 20 lakh were distributed on the occasion.

There were a total of 129 events. Dance, drama, mono-acting, Anthakshari competition in Tamil, Telugu, poetry, essay competitions, seminars, debates on various topics, short films in Tamil and English were among the events in art, literary and cultural category, while cricket, snooker, swimming, basketball, volleyball, handball, athletics and Mr Riviera were among the sport events. About 38,000 students from 700 universities and colleges in 25 countries in Asia, Africa and Europe participated in the four-day extravaganza.

VIT vice president Sekar Viswanathan presided over the valedictory function. VIT executive director Sandhya Pentareddy, pro vice chancellor S Narayanan, director (students’ welfare) Amit Mahindrakar and convenor S Sasikumar participated.
