Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami today handed over appointment orders to seven newly-appointed sub-inspectors who were part of 234 recruited through Tamilnadu Uniformed Services Recruitment Board, at the Secretariat in Chennai.

Chennai: Focusing on uplift of school education, Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami inaugurated a host of buildings, including classrooms, labs, toilets, at various schools across the State through video-conferencing from the Secretariat here today.

The institutions include government higher secondary schools in Chettmaarampatti, Kittampatti, Thottamanji, Bommathathanur, TT Thinnur, Peetaepalli, Kilmathur, Andevanapalli, built at a total cost of Rs 13,44,23,000 under the Nabard Loan Aid Scheme and buildings of 11 government higher secondary schools, totally costing Rs 17,72,97,000 under the Integrated Educational Scheme.

He also inaugurated many newly-constructed school buildings raised at a total cost of Rs 1,26,02,07,000.

On behalf of the Department of Housing and Urban Development, the Chief Minister launched a new website www.tenancy.tn.gov.in with which people can effectively utilise the Tamilnadu Regulation of Rights and Responsibilities of Landlord and Tenants Act, 2017, which came into force today.

The new legislation aims to regulate the tenancy of buildings as per the terms and conditions of the tenancy agreement executed by landlords and tenants and also safeguard the interest of landlords and tenants in case of disputes.

As per the provisions of this law, all tenancy agreements should be written agreements and compulsorily registered with the Rent Authority. The registration of the tenancy agreement with the Rent Authority is independent of the registration requirement of the tenancy agreement under the Registration Act, 1908.

Since most transactions are done through the tenancy registration portal with minimum interface of the Rent Authority, the tenancy registration portal eases the process of registration for the general public.

Palaniswami also inaugurated the completed road works, four river bridges and railway over-bridge in the districts of Tirunelveli, Virudhunagar, Cuddalore, Tiruvarur and Tiruvallur that cost Rs 3,32,45,00,000 by the Department of Highways and Minor Ports.

On behalf of the Department of Home, the Chief Minister inaugurated 34 police quarters in Tirupur, that cost Rs 4,19,00,000, police station at Mangalam, Tirupur district, built at a cost of Rs 69,18,000, 24 police quarters, five police stations, a Police Department building, a fire and rescue services building built at a cost of Rs 11,18,65,000.

He also laid the foundation stone for 201 hostels in Sivaganga which will be built at a total cost of Rs 44,76,00,000 under the Your Own House Scheme.
